Laetitia in Oil (mleiv.com)
Medium: Oil Size: N/A
I painted this more than a decade ago in oils. I remember it took forever. But it is really beautiful. The photo reference was from a Victoria's Secret catalog.
Natalie v2 (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 10X12"
(The scanner clipped one side, so you are missing a bit of the painting - sorry!)

I am trying to experiment with skin tones. I think this one turned out very well. I haven't scanned in the source image, but it was an old garden shot she did for a magazine - you can probably find it online if you look.

I didn't quite get the lips right (I can never get Natalie's lips right, dammnit!), but the eyes and hair turned out great, IMO.
Pale Skin Practice (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 9X12"
I have been experimenting with skin tones lately. This one isn't quite what I wanted (a very pale tone with purple notes), but the original was just so very different:
VS Practice 3 (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 8X10"

This took 3 hours to make. Someday... someday I will be faster.

VS Practice 2 (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 8X10"

This one took 3 hours. I suck. :(

Another Practice Painting (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 8X10"

Another practice painting from Victoria's Secret. This one didn't take too long: 1.5 hours.

Rachel Weisz (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

This is from some cheesy publicity photo I found online. I'm trying to branch out from just Victoria's Secret. ;)

Natalie Portman Black & White (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 11X14"

Another practice painting. As a portrait, it has flaws. But as a painting, I am quite proud of it. I like how the underpainting shows through in parts, and it feels very rough.

Pouty (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 2X4"

This is a very small sketch. I am kind of a control freak, so it's nice sometimes to be forced to let some of the irrelevant details go and just capture the shape of a thing.

VS Freakishly Skinny With Big Smile (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

Sometime after Laetitia disappeared, I stopped bothering with their names. She's just "freakishly skinny with big smile." I also like to draw "slut with big pouty lips," who appears in some of the previous drawings.

Old Studies (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: N/A

Several old studies I found in my files.

Girl in Chair (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

An old sketch I found.

Brown Background (mleiv.com)
Medium: Conte Crayon Size: 8X11"

A sketch from another Victoria's Secret catalog. I was surprised at how well it turned out, considering I couldn't erase oil pencils and I didn't do a preliminary carbon sketch..

Red Portrait (mleiv.com)
Medium: Oil on Paper Size: 14X15"

A Victoria's Secret catalogue study painting. My favorite part is the gray over brown - that layering effect is the thing I like most about oil paintings.

Yellow Portrait (mleiv.com)
Medium: Watercolor Size: 8X8"

This is another study from a Victoria's Secret catalogue (a shy girl has to make due). I love how it looks more like an oil painting than a watercolor.

Leaning With Hair (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

You might have guessed: I love drawing hair.  Chunky, stylized, curly hair is my favorite

Laetitia Casta (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

Contrary to Calvin Klein's opinion, Laetitia is the ideal of feminine beauty. I have drawn her thousands of times and she still fascinates me.

Bouguereau's Shepherdess (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 8X11"

Bouguereau was the arch-enemy of Monet and his ilk: the representation of all that was commercial in art, no innovation or spontaneity. I love him. I say, take your originality and shove it. The need to be the "first" to do something is such a juvenile concept!

Early Nude (mleiv.com)
Medium: Pencil Size: 6X6"

This is from an illustrator's reference book. I just like how the colors turned out.
