Motherboard (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 20x30"
This board curved a bit during painting, so this is a rotten, stretched photo. *sigh* I'll get another picture sometime once it's been flattened.

This is not at all my style, nor even what I intended. But I was so tired after Rusted Harlequin that I just wanted to finish it and move on. So here it is. Bleh.

Urgh. This painting was the bane of my existence for the last three weeks. But at least it is done. There are things I really, really hate about it. But overall I guess it's okay.
Wet Grave (version 2) (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 11x14"
This was inspired by an opening scene in The Crow: City of Angels, where the camera moves between the smoggy lit city to the underneath the clear water. I tried two versions, using different techniques, but I think Version 1 is my favorite. Version 1

I like this one. I think it plays to my strength: patterns. My inspiration was some stupid Pottery Barn flowery bedspread with lots of cream and green. I don't do flowers, but this is my take on I liked from that color scheme.

If you can't tell, I painted it in reverse. Which was a bit of a pain. Next time I try this technique, I think I will buy some thin tape and mark it that way. Woulda been way easier.
Corroded (mleiv.com)

Okay, I really hate this one. The orange got too dark and there is way too much of it. But as I am planning a copper rust painting next, I figure I learned a bit in the orange-yellow areas that will help me there.

This didn't turn out quite like I intended. I can never seem to get the right purple from acrylic - this is quinacridone magenta mixed with ultramarine blue, and it's pretty close but doesn't quite reach the luminosity I want.

Still, I think it is nice enought not to paint over. :)
More Ornament Paintings (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: 11"
Some more ornament paintings from my holiday vacation. I prefer the gold one I posted previously, but I think the red one here is okay.

This is my latest acrylic texture painting. I made it using a soft gel base streaked with a comb, then repeatedly glazed with green and gold. The ornament was made with my usual modelling paste medium, colored and topped with metallic and a "powdering" of iridescent to give it a little extra sparkle. As usual, it doesn't come through well in the photo, but here is a detail shot to bring out some of the glitter:

Painted Tin (mleiv.com)
Medium: Acrylic Size: N/A
I've been wanting to do this particular stripe painting for awhile, but I just never got around to it. I'm not good at doing "practice" paintings in general because they seem like such a waste of my very scarce time. But I needed a birthday box and I hate going shopping, so I figured it was a way to kill two birds with one stone, eh?

It turned out very nicely and I am a little sad that painted functional objects are viewed with such disinterest when compared with painted canvas, because I actually find it much more enjoyable to paint some existing object than a boring flat piece of paper. C'est la vie, I suppose.
