Pike (Middleman fanart)

Pike (Middleman fanart) (mleiv.com)
Medium: PhotoShop Size: 8.5"x11"

Yes, this is Wendy Watson and The Middleman. This particular scene is loosely derived from my favorite episode, the Flying Fish Zombification.

I made it for GeekGirlCon 2011 ( http://geekgirlcon.com/ ) this weekend, and barring crippling shyness I will get it signed by @okbjgm. And you can buy one if you come to GGC, for your own signing adventures. At my table. Which I will post a map of later. ^^

CSTS Seattle 2011 Entry

CSTS 2011 Contest Entry (Seattle) (mleiv.com)
Medium: Illustrator Size: 8"x10"

*UPDATE!* The Seattle Browncoats decided to print my design up as tshirts anyway! YAY! \dance/ You can buy it through the CSTS event site for $20:

CSTS Seattle 2011 tickets/tshirts: http://www.cstsseattle.org/tickets.html

If the shirts are at all like last year's, they are very thick cotton and the women's sizes tend to run big. Proceeds go to a good cause (or in this case, many good causes). And Seattle locals, I hope to see you at the screening too!

This was my entry to CSTS Seattle's art contest this year. It didn't win. Meh, I still liked it, although it was certainly not as awesome as last year's entry: http://mleiv.com/csts-2010-contest-entry-seattle/

Diana Wynne Jones 1934-2011

Charmed Life (mleiv.com)
Medium: PhotoShop Size: 6X10"
Diana Wynne Jones, one of my favorite authors, and undoubtedly the greatest influence on my creative self, died last night. She inspired elements of every story I have ever written, and a huge pile of my childhood fan art. My current character Kernan is based on her Master of the Hunt from Dogsbody.

I started this picture fifteen-some years ago and never finished it. Distractions. Dissatisfaction. It is from one of my favorites of her books: Charmed Life, and shows Cat and Janet Chant, who have just accidentally changed the maid Euphemia into a frog. In the background are the box of letters from Cat's parents, his matchbook, and his cat, Fiddle.

Toilet Genie/Toilet Sarlacc Mashup

Toilet Genie/Toilet Sarlacc (mleiv.com)
Medium: PhotoShop Size: 8.5X11"
I finished my comic page a bit early this week and although I really should have used that time to get started on next week's page, I made this fanart/mashup picture instead.

DeviantArt's blix-it makes the breathtaking comic Toilet Genie about Vidu, the genie stuck chained to a toilet. ElectricGecko was recently illustrating a story about a toilet monster. I called it the Toilet Sarlacc. And then I got drunk and silly and decided to do a crossover mashup. So of course Vidu must be the jedi plumber, but when I was all jedi-ing him, well, I got to drawing the chains, and I couldn't resist the Princess Leia bit. :P

As they say in Bad Santa, not all your fan arts can be winners, ha. But I hope you get a laugh from this. I sure did!

Holiday Card 2010

Holiday Card 2010 (mleiv.com)
Medium: PhotoShop/SketchBookPro Size: 4.25X5.5"
This is my winter holiday festivities card. I don't have the time (or creativity!) to make one up every year, but having exhausted all my snarky/nerdy/non-denominational purchasable sources this year, I was in a corner. Thank goodness I had Futurama as inspiration. I've been wanting to paint some Santa-bots for ages, so this was kinda testing the waters there. But 2011 will have Santa-bots. Somewhere. With a large arsenal of holiday cheer missiles. :)

I mailed one out to everyone whose address I know (the difference between 50 cards and 250 cards was $10 this year, so I have a big box of cards sitting here, ha). The rest of you, enjoy the online fun. You can read the inside:

Juileanna & Vincent & Victoria

Juileanna & Vincent & Victoria (mleiv.com)
Medium: PhotoShop/SketchBookPro Size: 8"
This is a portrait of deviantArt's Juileanna and her two cats which I did for our art trade (she made me a gorgeous bejeweled bookmark and sketchbook in return). We kinda both colored it, and she added the shirt.

It's a bit different from my usual portraits, as she is more in my comic book style. But Ilea specifically requested Hollification (or for the cats: Owlification?), so that's what I tried to do.

TLM Halloween Filler 2010

TLM Halloween Filler 2010 (mleiv.com)
Medium: SketchBookPro/Photoshop Size: 7"X11.5"
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that Anna is not much fun at parties. And Lucky - well, just don't leave him alone with your phone. That totally NSFW ringtone will be the least of your problems in the morning. :P

And this page is in place of a regular comic this week. Sorry, all that October business taking up my time (next week: MY FAB COSTUME PHOTOS!).

Rainbow In The Dark Pinup

Rainbow In The Dark Pinup (mleiv.com)
Medium: Photoshop/SketchbookPro Size: 8"x11"
The same team responsible for The Uniques, Comfort Love and Adam Withers, has started a new comic book series called Rainbow In The Dark. It is a stunning comic and it is absolutely right up my alley in subject matter, so I highly recommend that all of you go over RIGHT NOW and give it a look. If you like my comic at all, I am 99% sure you will like this comic too. It's only $0.99 to download, and the art is just gorgeous! Rainbow In The Dark #1 and #2.

The Uniques Fan Art – Motherboard

The Uniques Fan Art - Motherboard (mleiv.com)
Medium: Photoshop Size: 8"x11"
Okay, so this is some fan art for the awesome comic The Uniques by Adam Withers and Comfort Love (self-published!!). Motherboard has no superpowers, other than her awesome skillz with a computer, but she kicks supervillain ass all the time, and definitely holds her own in her superhero group of kids. So, obvy she's my favorite. ^_^

Promotional Art for LM2

Promotional Art for LM2 (mleiv.com)
Medium: SketchBookPro/Photoshop Size: 12"X3"
Here is the promotional art I created for the premium pack of The Locked Maze 2. The first two are the bookmark and the other two are stickers/magnets. I am showing the RGB versions here, because that is how I drew it, but they do look a bit different printed in CMYK, especially Lucky (damn blues!). See the photo on the sales page below.

Lucky's phrase originated with dA's very funny and talented ElectricGecko. Gecko, note me your address, because you get a free comic pack for your troubles. :)

So, without further ado:

The Premium Pack Order Form

My printed comics are officially en route and barring any catastrophes (which I am, I know, prone), I should be mailing these out within the next two weeks. I only have 30 comics to start with, but in the unlikely circumstance they sell out, I will put a second set up for sale in a few weeks (although the extras may change - I could run out of postcards and copies of LM#1). Also, I will put the comic for sale on IndyPlanet in the next few weeks, so you can always buy it there.

Concerning custom choices in the premium pack:
  • I have 20 Oak Leaf charms which I can include in the premium pack for another $5. I am initially restricting these to people who order the comic, just so I don't run out. But if there is interest, I can always make more.
  • For those of you who already have a copy of Book I, just let me know in the notes field and I will substitute your choice of a charm or extra stickers/magnets.
